With its first number published in April, 1901, The Advocate of Truth was a Periodical of the predestinarian Primitive Baptists of East Texas. Its founding publisher and editors, Elder J. C. Sikes and Elder J. R. Hardy were respected ministers of the Primitive Baptist churches of Texas who had previously written extensively in existing instruments including: The Baptist Trumpet, The Primitive Baptist, and The Signs of the Times.
Desiring to promote fellowship among the Primitive Baptists of Texas, and doubtless, to present a balance to the message of The Baptist Trumpet, edited by Elder J. G. Webb, they began this publication with a selection of articles on various topics, but a central theme of God’s sovereignty over all things and the historicity of the doctrine which was coming to be known as Absolute Predestination.
It is important to note that these writings do attempt to strike a balance between extremes, and in the course of this periodicals first 10 years, such respected Elders as J. H. Fisher were counted among its contributors and editors. We have been blessed with access to a nearly complete archive of the first 13 volumes of this periodical which we will add to our site as linked below.
